| Name Variation | Hattee Dakan12 |
| Note* | This person may be the same as Hattie Dakan in this file. The only thing that references Hattie Dakan is a marriage record in the LDS IGI for Missouri. This could be a second marriage for Hattie Dakan. Tombstone inscription at Harris Grove Cemetery, Harrison County, Iowa reads: "Hattie wife of T. B. Dakan, Oct 1, 1901, aged 44y, 7m, 13d." From Logan Nucleus, 3 Oct 1901 is the following obituary. "After an illness lasting over two years, 14 months of which she has been confined to her bed, Mrs. T.B. Dakan left her illness and suffering at 6:30 pm on Oct 1, 1901 and the soul took its flight to the home of peace and happiness which has been reserved for it on high. Mrs. Hattie Dakan was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams of Reeder Mills. Her father died at Reeder Mills some time ago but the mother survives her. Mrs. Dakan was born in Illinois Feb 18, 1875. Owing to the poor condition of her health the family moved to So. Dakota in March 1899, but as the climate there did not seem to benefit her she returned to Harrison County June 26, 1900 and the family followed her in Nov 1900 and since resided in the country about 2 miles south of Logan. A husband, 2 sons and a daughter are left to go through the remainder of this life without the loving care of a mother and comforting words of a loving wife. The funeral started from the residence at 10 o'clock this moring and services will be conducted by Rev. Boreman of the M.E. Church at the Harris Grove church at 10 o'clock Thrusday afternoon. Internment will be at Harris Grove Cemetery. To the bereaved ones the nucleus on behalf of the entrire community, extends its heartfelt sympathy.7 |

| Note* | The following is quoted from "History - Harrison County, Iowa", National Publishing Company, 1891, page 670 - "Mr. Williams, before and after he was of age, worked out and divided his earnings with his father, who was a poor man and afflicted with a rose cancer on his neck, and had broken down his health by hard work. He was married July 8, 1849, to Sarah Anderson, daughter of David and Mary (Shafer) Anderson, both natives of Ohio. The father died in Taylor County, Iowa and the mother in Noble County, Indiana., in March, 1853. In October, 1852, Mr. and Mrs. Williams left the Hoosier State, and went to Mason County, Ill., where they remained on a farm until they came to Harrison County, in 1871. Mr. Williams' early experience in farming was in a timbered country, where it was necessary to clear land with grub hoe and axe, and when sufficiently clear to raise grain upon the harvesting was accomplished by the use of a sickle, and the threshing by use of a flail. In those early days money was very scarce, and the youth of the land did not squander the money as they do at the present time, for they knew too well its cost. Seventy-five cents was the most that our subject or any of his companions ever spent on any public day. It may be justly claimed that he of whom we write is purely a self-made man, never having the advantages of the excellent schools which obtain at this time, or even of the early day district schools; but by application and self-study at spare moments through his life, he has become a fairly posted man, the knowledge he possesses being of that practical type which enables his to do business on correct principles and cope with his fellow man. Mr. Williams was the fourth child of a family of seven children - Benjamin, Isaiah, Sarah J., John, Rebecca, Johile, Amanda. Isaiah was the mainstay of the father (the older brother being married and away from home). While Isaiah was making a wagon-hound, as he was hewing on a block with an axe, the handle striking a misguided blow, cut his left hand nearly off, which in nine days caused his death from loss of blood. After the death of this brother, John, as soon as he was able, was forced into the harness and took the main charge of the work at home. Mr. and Mrs. Williams are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, having been identified with the denomination since 1855, previous to which time our subject had been a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, uniting with the same in 1819. Our subject and his estimable wife have been blessed with nine children - Mary, who died when two years of age; David, Josiah, Hattie, Elenor, John H., Adelia, Laura A., and Lucella. Hattie married Thomas B. Dakan, who is a partner of Mr. Williams and lives on the same farm. Their marriage occurred on October 28, 1871. (Note from David O. Dakan - I believe this to be the wrong year) John H. is in Omaha working at contracting with Petrie Bros., formerly of Logan. Laura A. married Perry E. Gardner, and lives in Kansas, while the balance of the family are residents of Harrison County." |
