"Pierce, Joseph - Died 14 April, 1901, aged 73 years, 1 month, 28 days, at Fairport, Missouri. He was born in Deleward County, Ohio, of a family of 6 children and only 1 survives him. He was married 13 December, 1848 to Abigail Conger, who survives him. They had 3 children -- Mary Almeda Hartwell, Sarah E. Lincoln and Dorcas Ann Daken. In 1864 he enlisted in 136th Ohio Inf. Vol. and was discharged in December of 1864. In 1867 he moved to DeKalb County. In 1882 unable to find work anymore, he moved to Fairport. Burial in Fairport Cemetery."2,3
