Ransom Norton married Elizabeth Faith in the state of Kentucky. To this union were born twelve children, three sons and nine daughters. Two of the boys died infancy, the other lived to the age of nineteen, died and buried in Kentucky.
Ranson and Elizabeth Norton with their nine daughters left the state of Kentucky for Texas in the year of 1851, traveling by steamship down the Red River.
The names of the daughters are, Nancy, Margret, Rachel, Elvira, Rodia, Abigail, Sarah, Annie and Martha Jane (Ma).
On the trip to Texas, Abigail was taken sick (they thougth it was seasickness), but she became worse and worse with acute intergestion and died. They prepared her body the best they could for burial, she had one dress she especially liked and they put it on her. The steam ship anchored along side the river bank just long enough to dig her grave and have her lonely funeral. Her father committed her back to God, who have her unto them, and said 'Goodby daughter darling until the Reserection Morning, your resting place is so lonely, not another body buried near, their river bank is your resting place, and old Red River your marker, Goodby till we meet again. Then again they started on their journey -- (Ma couldn't remember where they landed on Texas soil.
After arriving in Texas, they moved into a two room cabin near Wills Point, Texas. While there, one evening late a group of men and woman with a baby riding horse back stopped and asked for water, then asking that they might spend the night as the woman and baby was very tired, the men pitched camp in the yard but ask that they let the woman and baby stay in the house, which they did. There were two men that stood guard at all times. This woman was Synthia (Cynthia) Ann Parker, her baby was Quanah. She had been captured by the Indians when she was a small child, she couldn't skeak English. These men had recaptured her and were carrying her back to her own people. She didn't want to go, as she grew up with the Indian people and had married one of the Chiefs. They had several children, she hated to leave her husband and her other children behind. She got away several times, but they caught her. Later the Norton's moved up near Elmo between Wills Point and Terrell, while there Sara died and was buried in an old grave yard. They lived in and around there until the daughters were grown and married.
