| Note* | Information from Earlene (Dakan) Hall via Gerome Dakan says he was never married due to the fact he knew he would die before he was 35. In fact he was murdered when he was 34 - almost 35. He was deputized to hunt a man who had killed his in-laws at a Saturday night brawl in Grandfalls, Texas. The next day, Sunday Cicero (Toots) was the first man to find the man, Pete Aguilar, who was a friend of Toots. Toots felt confident the man would listen to him before he would listen to the sheriff and the others who were hunting him. He warned Toots not to come any closer or he would kill him. Toots did, Pete did. This was in 1930. Further information from Earlene (Dakan) Hall via Gerome Dakan is as follows: " Cicero was killed in 1930 by a Mexican named Pedro (Pete) Aguilar - a good friend of Toots in normal times. Aguilar had killed his wife and her parents at a Saturday night "Baile" and blew the secene of the crime. A posse was formed early the next morning to hunt him down. Toots, being everyone's friend, was deputized by the sheriff (along with several other men of the town) to search for him. Toots found him, to his ultimate bad fortune, and although warned by Aguilar not to come get him and he didn't want to shoot him becarse they were friends, he would shoot and shoot to kill. Toots continued to advance - Aguilar made good his threat and shot him. Toots was at the edge of a plowed field and Aguilar was hidden in mesquite clumps several feet higher than the field and was able to hold the rest of the men at bay for several hours. If Toots lived at all after the shot, no one knows how long, because he lay out in the hot, spring sunshine without aid from family and friends, and by the time they finally surrounded and captured Aguilar Toots was very dead and swollen. I remember they had to cut his shoes off him when they brought him home. No funeral parlor in that little town - it was all done at home... embalming and everything. It left my mother quite shaken because we were living in Grandpa's house at the time. Born January 28, 1896, Died in April of 1930."7 |

| Note* | Information from Earlene (Dakan) Hall via Gerome Dakan says she finished high school and went to Texas College of Mines in El Paso and graduated with a degree in elemetary education in 1949. Same information says she died in her sleep, cause unknown but undoubtedly due to heart stoppage. An autopsy was performed, but the cause of death could not be determined because she was already embalmed due to a mix up in directions at the mortuary. She was pregnant when she died. She was living at 2801 Polk St., El Paso, El Paso County, Texas when she died. |
